The CBSE Class 12 board examinations has been cancelled. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The meeting was attended by several union ministers including Rajnath Singh, Prakash Javadekar, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman, Dharmendra Pradhan and bureaucrats of various ministries.

PM Modi was briefed on all possible options that have emerged following extensive discussions with all states and other stakeholders.

"In view of uncertain conditions due to COVID and feedback obtained from stakeholders, it has been decided that Class 12 Board Exams would not be held this year. CBSE to take steps to compile results of Class 12 students as per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner," the government said.

Earlier today, ahead of announcing his final decision on conducting the CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal ‘Nishank’ said that the ''safety and future of thousands of students'' across the country remain the top priority of Narendra Modi government. The Education Minister also admitted that conducting the CBSE Board examinations for students in the prevailing COVID scenario is a huge challenge for the government.

"This is especially so when it comes to the Class 12 board examinations, which play a significant role in every student’s career graph and roadmap for life," the minister wrote in an opinion piece in a leading newspaper.

In the article, the Minister also emphasizing on the importance of Class 12 board examinations. He assured the students and their parents that their safety and well-being is the government’s top priority.

A plea to cancel the Class 12 board exams has also been filed in SC in view of the COVID 19 pandemic across the country. The next hearing regarding cancellation of Class 12 exams is on June 3, 2021.

The Centre informed the Supreme Court on May 31 that a decision on Class 12 exams will be taken in the next two days.

The state governments have already submitted their detailed suggestions regarding the conduct and format of CBSE Class 12 exams to the Ministry.

A high-level meeting on the CBSE Class 12 exam issue was conducted on May 23, which was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Union ministers Ramesh Pokhariyal, Smriti Irani, Prakash Javadekar, and Sanjay Dhotre besides education ministers and secretaries of several states and Union territories.

Soon after the meeting, the Education Minister had said that the decision regarding the conduct of the exam is likely to be announced by June 1. Many state governments have already shared their opinion to conduct CBSE Class 12 exams this year in offline mode but decreasing the duration of the examination.

However, in the series of tweets shared by the Education Minister, he assured that both students' and teachers' safety, security, and future are supremely important to them and no decision will be taken by compromising on these factors amid pandemics.

  1. At that time the health of the new generation is important than the exam if someone is having talent than no need to give the exam, its a good decision.

    But on the other hand, if students took the online classes than the exam also took in online format in presence of the guardian of that student because in the coming future there is lot of people who says that the decision taken by our PM spoil the carrer of my son/daughter.

    Kindly have a look on that matter it's very serious issue.
